Two essential events

Two essential events will take place in the coming months: the Conference on “Global challenges and innovative management of bark and wood borers in planted forests” organized by IUFRO (International Union of Forest Research Organizations) and the 5th International Congress on Planted Forests 2023.

The first event will take place in Bordeaux

The Conference on “Global challenges and innovative management of bark and wood borers in planted forests” will be held in Bordeaux, France, from August 29 to September 1, 2023.

This conference will focus on the recent massive outbreaks of the European spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus) due to heatwaves in the region. In addition, the unprecedented forest fires we have witnessed in recent years have created favorable conditions for the emergence of large populations of the Ips bark beetle (Ips sexdentatus).

Frequent attacks of other pests in reforestation plantations will also be discussed. Examples are not limited to France, so researchers and specialists from around the world are invited to share their findings to improve the risk management of new attacks by native or exotic bark beetle species.

Registration is open, and you can do it by clicking here. You can start preparing for your visit to the IUFRO Conference by accessing the practical information available here.

5th International Congress on Planted Forests

On the other hand, the 5th International Congress on Planted Forests (ICPF2023) will take place from November 7 to 10, 2023, at the World Agroforestry Campus in Nairobi, Kenya.

The event is organized by IEFC, IUFRO, EFI Research Network on Planted Forests, TREEDIVNET, CIFOR-ICRAF, Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of Kenya, with the technical cooperation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

This congress is a unique opportunity to review and discuss the challenges and opportunities in harnessing the potential of planted forests to meet the growing needs of the world’s population, restore forest ecosystems, and mitigate climate change.

Participants will have the opportunity to take part in the first NGP study tour in Kenya, titled “Public-Private Partnerships: Private Investment in Sustainable Forestry and Wood Processing.” For more information, click here.
