Organized by the University of Sopron, the BOKU University (Vienna) in conjunction with the COST FP1407 – ModWoodLife and FATE (Wood Science Association, Hungary), the 8th Hardwood Conference will take place in the city of Sopron, Hungary in the heart of Europe. This edition will have a special focus on “New aspects of hardwood utilization – from science to technology”.
Early bird registration ends on September 1st and you need to register by sending the filled registration form via e-mail to the local organizers (hardwood@woodscience.hu).
Although, historically, wood utilization in Europe has been associated to softwoods, recently and due to the increasing importance of semi-natural forest management, broad-leaf trees have increased their share within the forest stock to reach 25% to 50% of the total forest area, and it keeps growing fast and steadily.
Nevertheless, the increasing stock and the potential harvest of hardwoods does not match the demand on the market. Much of the harvested woods is used as fuel wood instead of being allocated to proper utilization paths, evidencing the need to find new and improved ways for a competitive hardwood utilization based on research results.
