Registration for UNECE workshop on green forest jobs is open
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the FAO Forestry and Timber Section will host the workshop Green Forest Jobs – Exploring opportunities and increasing the capacity of UNECE member States, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva next September 17th to 18th.
The workshop will explore how the forest sector can adapt to the emerging employment trends and seize opportunities for the creation of new green forest jobs in the UNECE region, that includes European countries, but also Canada and United States in North America, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in Central Asia and Israel in Western Asia.
This workshop will identify forest related activities with the highest potential for the creation of green jobs and discuss job opportunities in two specific areas: Health, well-being and forest recreation and Forest ecosystem management.
The workshop will also discuss the first draft of the Guidelines for Green Forest Jobs, which are being developed by the Joint UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section. The Guidelines will be presented for consideration to the Joint Session of the UNECE Committee on Forests and Forest Industry and the FAO European Forestry Commission, in November 2019.
The workshop is organised in the framework of the UNECE project “Improving the capacity of the UNECE member States to create green jobs in the forest sector”, funded by the Swiss Confederation.
