Artificial intelligence and citizen science for monitoring poplar health: webinar on the 8th of April

ProPopulus Team

On April 8th 2026, a webinar will take place focusing on the use of artificial intelligence and citizen science to monitor forest health, with particular attention to poplar.

The session, organised by the University of León and Propopulus, will involve the participation of the European Institute of Planted Forest (IEFC) and Garnica, and will be held online.

AppPopuli+ and Silvalert

AppPopuli+: a digital tool specialised in monitoring poplar health. It helps poplar growers and managers identify pests and diseases in poplar plantations and enables robust data collection and analysis to better understand the spread of these issues.

Silvalert: a collaborative mobile application designed to monitor tree damage. The session will present the roadmap to connect AppPopuli+ and Silvalert in order to create a more unified forest health network.

These tools allow managers and owners to collect field data and detect potential health problems, enabling a faster response to pests and other risks. In particular, AppPopuli+ is focused on the poplar sector, helping to improve knowledge of its health status and supporting decision-making.

Objectives and solutions of the webinar

The webinar aims to present these tools and gather feedback from participants in order to support their development and expand their use within the forest sector.

Webinar information

The session will be held in English on 8 April from 16:30 to 17:30 and will feature Flor Álvarez Taboada (University of León), Benoît de Guerry (IEFC) and Carlos Álvarez Cuevas (Garnica).
